It’s almost time for the Ebay Triple Crown Moneigh Auction for ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption.  ReRun has a very special place in my heart because it’s the place my own “heart horse” came from.

If you’re unfamiliar with Moneighs (the name is a registered trademark), they are original, abstract paintings created by horses, using their muzzles, whiskers, hooves and tails.  Some equine artists, including Cigar and Funny Cide, paint by holding a brush in their mouths.

Since last year, over 500 Moneighs have been sold to raise money for Thoroughbreds in need.  Not only are Moneighs the cutest idea (and the cutest name), the horses create great art.  Doubt me?  Here’s Zenyatta at work:

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Zenyatta! And now she’s an artist as well.

Here is her Moneigh:

If you love it (as I do), you can order 11″ x 14″ reprints for just $35 per print plus $5 shipping and handling.  Sorry, but the original is sold.

Don’t despair.  There’s never a dearth of talented Thoroughbreds.  And this year, there’s quite a line up of horses ready to show you their artistic rather than athletic sides.  Cigar and Storm Cat, both quite comfortable being right out front, are serving as Auction Co-Chairs to benefit their fellow Thoroughbreds.

On May 27th (this coming Sunday), on ebay, you’ll be able to bid on Moneighs from those prominent stallions and their fellow racetrack stars.  This year’s line up includes works by Colonel John, Dullahan, El Padrino, Funny Cide, Go For Gin, In Lingerie, Lady Tak, Lemon Drop Kid, Madcap Escapade, Monarchos, Rock Hard Ten, Shackleford, Smarty Jones, Super Saver and Tale of Ekati.

No matter the size of your purse, there are Moneighs for everyone.   Prices begin at $150.  The record price for a Moneigh was $5000 for a painting by John Henry, autographed by jockey Chris McCarron.

Can’t wait till the 27th?  You can purchase a Moneigh from Sightseeing, Polka Dot Com, City Place or With Distinction, right now on ebay.  But don’t wait to put your money down.  Just like a horserace, when the auction’s over, it’s over.
