It’s been a busy, strenuous and, on occasion, slightly overwhelming fall so far for me. How about you?
If you’re answering in the affirmative, I have help for you, courtesy of my niece Samantha. If you’ve been a long-time reader of my blog, you may remember her advice in Piece of toast.
She’s back, with more practical advice, which she emailed me the other day:
“Think nice thoughts like these nice thoughts,” she told me:
Ponies eating
Ponies trotting
Ponies cantering
Ponies walking
Ponies tolting (Icelandics!)
Ponies standing
Ponies lying down
Ponies sleeping
Ponies grazing
Ponies drinking water
Ponies with frost on their whiskers
Ponies in the snow
Ponies rolling
Ponies jumping
Ponies cantering through leaves
Ponies swimming
Ponies on the beach
Ponies with blue ribbons on their necks
Ponies being ponies.
Just to name a few. There are lots more, but you can start with these.”
Feel better now?
And while you are eating your toast, you might reflect on how the world seems to be all about what you can achieve; what you can acquire; how you can be better than the next person, etc. Maybe we all just need to pause and be thankful for what we do have and what we have achieved. The world is in a bad place right now and getting worse; stop for a moment and think about what is REALLY important. Put aside your menial chores and big projects, go hug all that you love. It all comes down to: dust to dust, ashes to ashes. Thank God for all that he has given you and pass some of it along to a person in need. It doesn’t have to be money: a kind word has been known to change a person’s life.

Right now when I think of ponies I think of the nearly 16hh 2 year old pony who is on an air ride tractor trailer a few hours from here. That definitely makes me smile! Cool enough weather to justify shipping my new horse across the country and I finally get to see her again nearly 2 months after buying her!
My “hard summer” is so minor compared to what’s going on with other people – and I am so incredibly lucky and grateful for what I have!
